Cookie Policy

This policy explains how cookies and similar technologies are used on cnlsystems.com. It sits alongside our Privacy Policy, which covers everything else we do with information.

1What cookies are

A cookie is a small file a website asks your browser to store. On your next page, or your next visit, the browser hands it back, so the site can recognize the same browser. "Similar technologies" means anything that does the same job by another route, such as storage in your browser or a script that reports how a page was used.

2Whether we use them

Yes. Some are needed for the site to work at all. Others help us see how the site is used, and you can switch those off.

This policy covers the cnlsystems.com website. It does not cover an Operator's booking site: none of the optional technologies described here run there.

3Who sets them

Some cookies are set by us. Others are set by a company we use to run part of the site, and are read by that company rather than by us.

We use two such companies today. The first is Microsoft Clarity. It records how pages on this site are used, including clicks, scrolling, mouse movement and the order of pages viewed, so we can find what confuses people and fix it. What you type into a form is masked in your browser before anything is sent, so form contents never reach Microsoft. Loading Clarity also sets a Microsoft identifier that Microsoft itself uses for advertising on its own services, which is why we put it in the advertising category below rather than the analytics one.

The second is Google Analytics. It reports which pages are viewed and how people move through the site, in aggregate, so we can see what works. It sets first-party cookies on cnlsystems.com, one to recognize a returning browser and one to group the pages of a single visit together. Unlike Clarity, it does not set an advertising identifier, which is why it sits in the analytics category below rather than the advertising one. We have not enabled Google's advertising features, and the property is not linked to a Google Ads account. If that changes, this page changes with it.

4How we use them

We group cookies into three categories.

Essential. These make the site work: keeping your session, protecting our forms against cross-site request forgery, and remembering the cookie choice you make. The site cannot function without them, so they cannot be switched off. They are all set by us, and they carry no tracking.

Analytics. Understanding how the site is used, in aggregate, so we can improve it. Google Analytics is in this category. It reports which pages are viewed and how visits move through the site, so we can see what works and what does not. Switching this category off means it is never placed in the page at all.

Advertising. Anything that hands an identifier to an advertising platform, including measuring whether an ad we paid for led to a signup. Microsoft Clarity is in this category, for the reason given in Section 3. We do not use Clarity for advertising and we run no ad-measurement tag of our own.

Separately, we keep our own count of pages viewed on this site. It sets no cookie, stores no IP address, and never leaves our server, so there is nothing in it for you to switch off.

5Your choices

Analytics and advertising are on by default, and you can switch either off at Your Privacy Choices. Your choice is stored on that browser and applies from the next page you load. A category you switch off is never placed in the page at all, rather than placed there and told to stay quiet.

If your browser sends a Global Privacy Control signal, both categories are off already and stay off for as long as it keeps sending it. You do not need to do anything.

Your browser can also block or delete cookies itself, in its privacy or site settings. Blocking essential cookies will stop parts of this site from working.
